I know Cole has mentioned that we've been having problems with our neighbors.
The noise I could handle. The immature taunting of "Faggot!" I can handle. The stupid, petty ripping of our name from our mailbox I can handle.
Coming home from the grocery store to find "FAGS!!!" on our door in permanent marker? That's something else.
I've been gay-bashed before, but truthfully, I've never been this scared in my life. Because this isn't a public place were I can go home. This is my home.
So, we threw some clothes in a bag, grabbed the cat, and ran like hell. We're staying with my dad right now, and maybe after tomorrow I'll feel safe at home again.
Of course, the landlord is being a tool about it, and we can't do anything until Monday.

Take pictures of everything; record details. I so wish I was there. Nobody fucks with my son.
We're home now, and discovered a bit more damage, and have been photographing everything. We also bought a baseball bat as a means of minor self-defense, and we're agreed we're not leaving the apartment after dark, at least for right now.
Fucking put my picture on the door with a note that says, "THAT'S OUR MOM!" If I need to come to your house to slap a bitch up for tormenting you guys, I'll do it.
So. Mad.
Can you get pepper spray? If not, a small bottle of hair spray will do, for portability.
Also take note of any exchange or confrontation with the neighbours; names, dates, times, if there's anyone else around, what you've said to the landlord and his/her actions. Dates are really important. It takes it from, "Well, this happened sometime last week..." to "On this date, around this time, I was confronted by such-and-such..."
I'm so furious you have to go through this. It's so totally not fair and not right. I love you.

If you're in a house and have a landlord then you pretty much need to do the same thing. Also, there are ways to find out who owns house these douchebags live in (if they rent) and report their behavior to their landlords. My friend was having somewhat similar situation next to them, and now the neighbors are getting evicted.
So make a log every time and day something happens. The mailbox thing, the taunts, take pictures, report to apartment management/landlord if that applies, get signitures of the reports, then you have all this shit for the police. It makes their job easier.
